What NHS guidance says

NHS pregnancy advice specifically calls out:

  • Folic acid or folate — 400 µg daily from before conception through the first 12 weeks. Higher doses may be indicated for some women (talk to your GP).
  • Vitamin D — 10 µg (400 IU) daily throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Avoiding vitamin A (retinol) — vitamin A in retinol form should not be supplemented in pregnancy. Beta-carotene is fine.
  • Iron and iodine — check if your diet provides enough; some women benefit from supplementation.

A UK prenatal multivitamin should hit these categories at appropriate doses and NOT contain vitamin A as retinol.

Format differences

Tablet

Cheapest per day. Higher-strength doses possible. Can be harder to swallow for some.

Capsule

Smoother swallow than tablets. Vegetarian capsules available. Middle price bracket.

Gummy

Easy to remember to take. Usually lower nutrient doses. Contains sugars/sweeteners.

Liquid liposomal

Highest price bracket. Suits those who genuinely struggle with capsules. Fridge storage needed.

Where BioMirco sits

BioMirco sits in the "active-form folate, higher CoQ10, capsule" category. Similar overall philosophy to Proceive on nutrients but different format. Similar to Zita West on ingredient philosophy, generally more affordable per day than Wild Nutrition's food-state approach or Naitre's liposomal delivery.
